We offer Danish cord weaving for chairs designed to last — restoring their structure, function and character for years to come. Working with traditional methods and natural materials, each seat is rewoven by hand, respecting the original construction and intention of the piece.

This is not only repair, but continuation.

A way to keep well-made objects in use, allowing them to age, adapt and remain part of everyday life.


Material

Danish cord is a durable paper cord made from twisted paper fibres, valued for its strength, comfort and natural appearance. Its warm texture and subtle colour complement solid wood beautifully, creating a timeless combination that ages gracefully.

With proper care, a handwoven Danish cord seat can last for decades, gradually developing a rich natural patina through everyday use. We weave each seat by hand using traditional techniques and original L-nails, staying true to the craftsmanship and construction methods of the Danish Modern period.

The result is a lightweight, comfortable and repairable seat, made to remain in use for generations.


History

Danish cord became one of the defining materials of the Danish Modern movement during the 1940s and 1950s. Designers such as Hans J. Wegner and Børge Mogensen incorporated it into some of their most celebrated chairs, recognising its unique combination of strength, comfort and visual lightness.

Its natural texture and remarkable durability made it an ideal companion to solid wood, creating furniture that remains both functional and timeless. Today, these woven seats continue to be admired for their longevity, repairability and understated beauty.

Conversion to Danish cord weaving
Replacing an upholstered seat with traditional Danish cord weaving, including installation of original-style L-nails.
€170 per seat (including new Danish cord and L-nails)


Additional information

  • Removal of existing upholstery: €20/hour
  • Conversion is only possible where the chair's construction allows an authentic Danish cord weave.
